IN CASE YOU DIDN’T REALIZE IT…

Your kids ARE going to make mistakes online AND it’s YOUR JOB to teach them how to use technology safely and appropriately

Do you have a thoughtful PLAN in place that makes your rules clear and provides you and your kids with a clear path forward when mistakes happen?

" I was really worried about what my kids were doing online and didn't know where to start when it came to setting guidelines."

"I was really worried about what my kids were doing online and didn't know where to start when it came to setting guidelines. Julie's help in that area was invaluable and I feel like we have a good plan in place and I'm glad I have someone to call if I need help in the future!"

SHARI, PARENT

WHAT’S THE ISSUE?

When we were growing up, our parents could sleep well when we were home, knowing that we weren't putting our safety at risk. The same can't be said today. Kids are often NOT safe when they're home because they're online communicating with people and in ways that CAN put their safety (& future) in question. Parents not only need to know where their kids are physically, but now you need to know where your kids are virtually. And with new apps coming out all the time, your kids always seem one step ahead.

Parents have more to do today than ever!

YES! Parenting is harder today than it was for our parents

01

Fact: Your kids are going to make mistakes online and you need to know how you're going to address the mistake and your child when it happens ahead of time

Your kids want to use technology, but it's hard to figure out what you need to do to keep them safe, not go nuclear when they make a mistake (and they will make mistakes), and stay consistent with your rules. We often deal with tech issues that affect our kids "in the moment" without thinking about HOW we are going to actually carry out the consequences for misuse when we're scared, angry, or frustrated.

02

Fact: You didn't grow up with the technology your kids are using today so you don't have a roadmap for HOW to teach them to use it the right way

You no doubt have some ideas about how to talk to your kids about drugs, alcohol, and sex. Why?

Those were topics you had to learn about from your parents (or other adults) as your grew up. You were taught what your family's values and rules were around all those topics.

The tech your kids are using wasn't around when you were their age, so it's hard to figure out what the "rules" ought to be.

03

Fact: It's YOUR job as a parent to teach your kids how to use tech safely and appropriately so you need to feel comfortable being able to say "yes" to tech

As parents, it's much easier to say "no" than it is to say "yes" to things we don't fully understand and perhaps fear. Part of working with me on developing a personalized family tech plan involves helping you figure out ways to say "yes" to tech that make YOU comfortable. It's YOUR job as a parent to teach your kids how to use it safely, and if your go-to is "no", you're not allowing them to learn.

 I Have Your Solution
